LAVA Volleyball Club 2015-16 Player / Parent Information

LAVA Volleyball Club was formed in 2011 to address the needs of Livingston County parents and girls to have a club that: Is reasonably priced and doesn’t require travel outside of New York to play Allows players to focus on school sports first ahead of club requirements. LAVA Volleyball Club believes it has developed a good formula for players wishing to improve their volleyball skills after the season and still be able to participate in other sports with their schools. Club History and Philosophy

To provide a quality learning environment for players to be able to improve on their volleyball skills while still allowing them to focus on school and family activities. Goals

How it works! Teams formed based on try-out turnout Projected to field 5 to 6 teams this season Teams play in 6 to 8 local tournaments (between Buffalo & Rochester) Practice: 1 night per week starting in November Held at Cal-Mum High School gym on Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays - 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Age group practices posted as soon as team selections are determined

Tryouts 2 Open Tryout Sessions Per Age Group Sunday, November 8 AND Sunday, November 15, 2015 @ Caledonia-Mumford High School Gym 12U, 13U, & 14 U 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 15U & 16 U1:00 – 3:00 p.m. 17U & 18U3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Determine the correct age level for your daughter by answering the question: How old will my daughter be on August 31, 2016?

Sessions monitored by volunteer coaches and advisors Evaluations based on the following attributes: Individual volleyball skills Team volleyball play ability “Coachability” Work ethic and effort Overall volleyball potential Position availability and need Tournament and practice availability Tryouts (continued)

All volunteers help decide where a player is ultimately placed LAVA holds multiple tryout sessions understanding that all players have "bad days" and one session may not allow a player to adequately represent herself Tryouts (continued)

All players must come to the age group tryout they qualify for the 1st night (If coaches feel that a player should move up, that will be discussed with parents.) After tryouts teams will be selected (Depending on skill levels, there is a chance that a team will not have 12 players.) LAVA has room for a maximum of 12 players per team in three or four age groups Players will be notified by e-mail as to whether they made a team Tryouts (continued)

All players MUST register with the Western Empire Volleyball Association (WEVA) WEVA is our local tie to USA Volleyball Provides insurance coverage Sanctions clubs and tournaments WEVA Junior Tryout Membership (for new members) - $15 Registration and payment made online directly to WEVA - http://www.wevavolleyball.org/G-Reg-O.asp http://www.wevavolleyball.org/G-Reg-O.asp Players register and print registration and membership card BEFORE try-outs. If previously registered with another club, bring a copy of your membership card to try-outs. Players selecting LAVA after making a team, pay the balance of the WEVA registration directly to WEVA - $47 What about costs? WEVA…

Playing time is important to us as it is to every player -Main reason teams will have no more than 12 players -Club fees go toward practice time and instruction by qualified, experienced coaches, NOT playing time in tournaments -Guarantee a ‘fair’ amount of playing time for every player; this does not necessarily mean an ‘equal’ amount -When considering the amount of playing time that your daughter is receiving, a comparison must be made among players that play the same position What about playing time?

More playing time is earned by: regularly being at practice attending tournaments working hard to improve fostering team relationships demonstrating good sportsmanship, and executing the skills when given the opportunity to play What about playing time?

Coaches are advised to give everyone fair opportunities to contribute their skills and abilities during tournament pool play matches. When a team advances past pool play, it is the coaches’ discretion and decision to reward players that have excelled during pool play with playing time in these final matches. What about playing time? (continued)

Our focus is about achieving goals and improving in all areas of volleyball, not solely about winning tournaments. What about playing time? (continued)
