1 Parental Information League Structure
The first week will consist of some orientation / organizational time with your coach and practice. There will not be an actual game on the first week. For the remaining 7 weeks, at each scheduled time, the team will begin with a 20-minute practice. The practice will be immediately followed by a 45-minute game against another team in the league. There are no additional practices. The Games For all games (except leagues with 3rd grade players), the coaches will be on the court coaching the kids and acting as referees at the same time. Leagues with 3rd grade players will have referees, with coaches remaining on the bench. Remember, this is an introduction to the game of basketball. We’re here to learn and have fun. And, since this is a non-competitive program we will not actually keep score. The coaches have been provided a recommended substitution schedule to ensure equal playing time for all players over the course of the season. What To Wear Have your child wear their Lay-Ups t-shirts each week. This will serve as their team uniform. They can wear any type of shorts or pants that are comfortable. They must wear non-scuffing athletic shoes. Your Coach All of our coaches are volunteering their time. They will appreciate your support throughout the season. Please work with them to ensure your child has a rewarding and enjoyable experience. For your information, we have run criminal background checks on all of our coaches. Conduct Please remember that this program is for the enjoyment and enrichment of your child. It is imperative to demonstrate excellent sportsmanship at all times. This is how our children learn to be good sports. The games are non-competitive, so parents need to be non-competitive too! Facility Guidelines Please follow the rules of the facility in which the games are being played. Please do not bring in any food or drink. If you are wearing non-athletic shoes, please do not walk onto the court. Remember to keep an eye on other family members while in the facility. If you have any questions or concerns, please direct them to your team coach. If they are unable to answer your question, they will refer the question to Lay-Ups.
