5 Goals for the season Continue a consistent grassroots program that trains and prepares athletes for the rigors of High School athletics (volleyball). Improve overall skills Be competitive in every district and tournament match. Compete for a district championship at every level Academic Success Emotional and physical growth Relationship growth amongst HS and MS program

6 Training Continuum Training Continuum
Setter runs the offense, jump setting speed priority, film work, breaking down film in order to put in a game plan, Offense – shot selection and variety, Defense – read and react, ability to read hitters and anticipate, play book, knowing what play to run and when, serving with purpose, program view, teaching 7th-JV program responsibility, execution of game plan in huddles, coach voice recognition during competition Serve receive – taking balls with hands, Defense – playing balls with one hand, two hands closed, Rover defense, How to attack rotation, perimeter, rover defense, setting strategy/film work, spin setting, primary jump setting, C1-C3, when to hit what shots, lower the offense and improve the speed of game, serving from LB, MB and RB to vary delivery Fundamentals – passing/setting w/movement, jump float, serving aggressive, S. strategy to 1/5/3, closing the block, down ball, B. row attack, F. row attack for position (hitting to RB), roll shots to 3, hitting power direction line and cross, tipping right from MF, A1-A3 play sets, running the 2 from all 3 spots, Coach directs setter to run offense, Rotation defense, Serve receive – 3 man responsibilities, primarily platform, introduce hands, defense tempo passing Fundamentals – stationary passing, stationary setting, float serve, serving for technique, 4 step approach on the O.H., 3 step MB, down ball, B. row attack, F. row attack technique, blocking technique (hop block, step crossover), single block in the middle, defensive footwork (back pedal, 3 step), base, free ball, back row, down ball defense, perimeter D., Offense numbering system. 10 Tryouts Uniform for Tryout: Athletes will wear issued workout gear (issued on 1st day of school). Athletes will need to provide kneepads, socks, black spandex (3” or longer) and athletic shoes. Spandex shorts will be permitted in the gym only. Athletes must attend all tryout dates in order to be considered for the team unless pre-arranged with coaching staff. Dates for Tryouts: August 15-18, 2017 Times TBD Results Posted: by student ID numbers on the volleyball page of the schools athletic webpage by 5:00pm on Friday.

11 Tryouts Serving skills including accuracy and location
Tryouts will evaluate the following skills: Serving skills including accuracy and location Passing skills including serve receive and accuracy Hitting skills including accuracy and location Setting skills including accuracy Knowledge of game rules & regulations Athletic Endurance and Agility Endurance Expectation: 8th mile run <9:00; 7th mile run < 9:45 Attitude, Teamwork, and Hustle

12 Volleyball Practices Volleyball Practice Expectations
All athletes are expected to be at ALL practices. 7th grade will practice before school: Times TBA depending on school day hours. 8th grade will practice after school: Times TBA depending on school day hours. Athletes should notify a coach prior to missing practice if at all possible.

13 Volleyball Teams, Games, and Tournaments
Three Teams Per Grade Level (Green, Black, White) Both Middle Schools participate in the same 5A District Prosper ISD, McKinney ISD, and Highland Park ISD Each team will play in 1-2 tournaments, including a district tournament Transportation is provided to all away games Athletes are encouraged to stay and support all of the teams Parents can sign out their daughter after her match, provided she doesn’t have responsibilities (line judge) PISD provides the uniform tops and practice gear. Athletes are responsible for: black spandex shorts, kneepads, socks, and shoes.

14 Reminders Summer Camp: June 19-22nd- Middle School + 9th grade: 8-11 AM and 2nd-6th grade: 1-3 PM.  Speed Camp Starts June July 10-August 3 at PHS 7th-8th grade - 10 am-12 9th-10th grade AM 11th-12th grade AM Register online via PHS Athletics website (scroll down to Summer Sports Camps Info) - BEGINNING APRIL 3rd EVERYONE needs a current pre-participation physical on file prior to tryouts – every year-annually. Turn in at front office of Rogers or to Girls Athletic Coordinator.

15 Booster Club Open to EVERYONE in the vb program: MS and HS (MS participation is strongly encouraged!) Great way to be a part of the program and help out from the parent/volunteer side We will be including the MS teams in the Media Guide this year! More info. to come
