The Stages of Identity Crisis Which one pertains to Holden?

What is an identity crisis?  Time of intensive analysis and exploration of different ways of looking at oneself  Regarded as one of the most important conflicts people face in development

Erik Erikson  Theorist that coined the phrase “identity crisis”  Argued that there are stages of identity crisis:  Achievement  Moratorium  Foreclosure  Diffusion

Achievement  Stage when an individual has gone through an exploration of different identities and made a commitment to one  Being comfortable in your own skin

Moratorium  Status of a person who is actively involved in exploring different identities, but has not made a commitment  Trying to find yourself

Foreclosure  Status when a person has made a commitment without exploring other options  Being forced to be someone else without looking into any other options

Diffusion  Occurs when there is neither an identity crisis or a commitment
