WELCOME TO 4 TH GRADE MRS. HOGAN’S CLASS MATH AND SCIENCE Find your seat with your name on it from “Meet the Teacher night”. If you weren’t here that night, choose a spot! Put your school supplies on top of your desk. Take a few minutes to look around the room from your chair, get to know your neighbors and wait for instructions.

THE CLASSROOM Do not enter the classroom without the teacher present. Enter quietly Turn in your homework Record homework in your planner Store your personal items in desk or on back of chair. Get pencil pouch Look at white board for instructions. Get TEKS workbook

THE PENCIL Do NOT throw pencils – EVER! Do NOT break pencils – EVER! Always have pencils in your supplies (pencil pouch). They will be checked on Fridays. Be sure you have a pencil before class begins. You may trade your blunt pencil for a sharpened one at the very beginning of class. Do not interrupt the teacher to ask to sharpen your pencil. Do not use a sharpener at your desk. Use it over the trash can.

LINING UP (Specials, Restroom, Specials, Library, Fire Drill, etc.) You will be called by tables or in another identifying manner. There will be no running at any time. Face forward at all times. Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself. Keep the line straight and quiet. It is not appropriate to have a conversation in the hallway. If you recognize another teacher in the hallway and want to say hello, do not shout their name. You may quietly smile and wave.

BATHROOM BREAKS Students will be allowed to go to the bathroom when needed during class. However, if the privilege is abused it will be taken away. You will take the bathroom pass that says girls or boys (whichever is appropriate for you) and put it on your desk. Then you will go the bathroom, leaving it there. Bathroom breaks should never take more than a couple of minutes. Use your time wisely. Do not wander in the halls when taking a bathroom break. This would be a clear violation of our rules and will result in a conduct mark.

LET’S DO LUNCH Follow all school rules in the cafeteria and practice good manners. Be observant while you are in the lunch line. Make sure you get a drink, utensils and condiments. You will not be allowed to go through the line again or cut. If you let anyone cut in line, you will all go to the end of the line. Never play with your food. Stay in your seat at all times while eating. Keep the tables and floors clean. You are responsible for your tray, sack or lunchbox. You must clean up after yourself. Do not get out of your seat until you are dismissed. If you need an adult you should raise your hand.

PERSONAL POSSESSIONS NEVER, EVER bring toys, video games or other electronics to school. Keep your watches, jewelry and hair accessories in place or out of sight in your backpack. If you are playing with inappropriate items during class or on the playground, they may be confiscated and returned after your parents have been notified. This would result in a conduct mark.

VISITORS IN CLASS Who knows what we do if a visitor comes in the room? Keep working and following class procedures. Do not interrupt the teacher during a conversation. Stay in your seat. If you are unsure what to do…silently read a book from your desk. Always be respectful of all guests in the classroom. Be our guest, be our guest….

DISMISSAL When notified by the teacher that it is time to change classes or pack up for the day, the students will: Return all books to the proper place(s). Clean up all trash in and around the desk and dispose of it. Turn in ALL papers unless otherwise instructed. Be sure you have your planner and nightly homework assignment. Follow lining up procedures if changing classes. Sit and listen quietly for all instructions regarding your transportation at the end of the school day.

GROUP WORK AND CONFERENCES During group work use CHAMPS appropriate voice levels. (refer to chart at front of the class) If you have a question, then ask the helper or another student near you in quiet voice. Do not interrupt the teacher conference or group. Be respectful of all members during group work and give each member an opportunity to participate. Be open to all group members input.
