1 Welcome Back to School Ms. Russell’s Class

2 When Entering the Classroom
Unpack your materials for the day (binders, agenda, pencils, DEAR book, laptop (charged at home nightly)) Hang up your laptopbag on your hook, bookbag on floor underneath cubby Make your lunch choice on EDMODO Place your homework on top of your desk so I can check it quickly Sharpen 2 pencils Sit quietly working on morning work, or reading silently. Do not interrupt other students while working

3 Announcements When the announcements start……
Put your book or work to the side and pay attention to the announcements. When the pledges start you need to stand up, place your right hand over your heart and say the pledges. During the moment silence you need to be silent. When the pledges are over you need to sit down again quietly and listen to the rest of the announcements.

4 Lining up Wait to be given instructions
Stand up quietly behind your desk and push in your chair You will be given directions to line up in order, unless otherwise told Make sure your desk is neat and your area is clean Practice the 4th grade S’s!!! Straight Silent Single File

5 Lunch room behavior When in the lunch line you are to stay in your line order while waiting for your food. When you sit down at the table, you need to eat first, then you may talk quietly. Use manners while eating and sitting in the cafeteria. Recycle our milk containers and food trays. You should talk with a level 1 or 2 voice in the cafeteria. Make sure you are sitting facing forward to try to avoid spills.

6 Recess Behavior On the playground we will play fair,
Follow school rules, Share with others, and Stay in the assigned area. Please do NOT throw rocks, sticks, or sand; leave them on the ground where they belong! Take turns on or with playground equipment. Line up as soon as I call for our class.

7 Bathroom Behavior You need to make sure that you use your time wisely and go to the bathroom whenever we have group bathroom breaks. You may not ask to go to the bathroom during whole group, directions or while I am doing a read aloud. If you have to go to the bathroom during work time, you need to ask and go quickly and quietly in order to not disturb other classrooms, or others in the hallway.

8 Hallway Behavior When you are in the hallway you need to be walking at an appropriate pace. We are not speed walking or lollygagging in the hallway. You need to keep your hands to yourself and off others and the walls. Hands should either be at your side, or behind your back. We have 0 voices in the hallways. If another class is passing, we need to be respectful and let them pass. We don’t want to cause any wrecks. 

9 Getting supplies Make sure you have materials you will need to complete an assignment before we start. Use your colored pencils, markers and or crayons. Do not get out of your seat or go across the room to borrow a color from another student, you need to use what you have. During independent work time if you do not have something you need and you can quietly get up and get what you need with out disturbing others you may do so and get back to your area quickly.

10 School Library No more then 3 students at a time will be allowed to go to the library. Try to take care of checking out books during Media Center on Fridays! When you are going to the school library you need to walk quietly. You will have 10 minutes in the library, so you need to use your time wisely. If you go over the 10 minutes in the library, you will either loose your turn the next day, and/or have to pay money.

11 Classroom Library Whenever you are in the reading station in Reading Workshop you may read my classroom library books. If it is a book that you really enjoy or are not finished reading, you may put it in your book bag and finish it later. You will only have three minutes to choose a book in the classroom library and then get busy reading. You may read in my library and use the “book nook” if you are in the reading station only.

12 Organizing Keep all supplies in your desk, pocket or cubby
Remove all loose papers; decide if they should go home or stay at school Put papers that are not complete in your homework folder Put pencil or art supplies in your school box Put your folders and notebooks in your desk Pick up your trash and throw it away

13 Weekly Folders Every Friday you will take your weekly folder home.
There will be graded papers and other school work that’s been checked in the folder. Parents are to take out papers, go over them with you and sign the sheet saying they have seen your work. Then you will need to return your folder the following Monday or ASAP to be sent home the next Friday with different work.

14 Turning in your work or homework
Classwork- Make sure your name is on your paper and turn your paper into the correct tray. Homework- Make sure that your name is on your homework. Turn your homework into the homework tray.

15 Unfinished Work If you are not finished with your work whenever I tell you it is time for us to move onto another task, then you need to place it inside your homework folder. If you are not done with an assignment before the day is over, it become extra homework. Which should be completed that night and turned in the next morning for credit. I do not want to spend class time tracking down students assignments or providing new copies of assignments to be made up.

16 What to do during free time
If you finish an assignment, first work on any unfinished assignments that are in your homework folder. When you have finished all work for the day you may read silently, or work on math extra assgnments.

17 Visitors in the Classroom
When visitors enter the room you need to be respectful and continue working hard; remember, most visitors are here to watch you learn, so be ready to explain what you are working on. If I have a phone call or they make an announcement to our room, you need to stay quiet so I can hear the speaker. If I am out of the room when someone calls down to the room, the substitute needs to answer respectfully.

18 Emergency Drills Fire drill -Stop everything; stand up and head for the door quickly, but without running or pushing and get in line order. The second person in line holds the classroom door for the rest of the class; the third person in line holds the outside door only for our class, then becomes the last person in line; wait patiently, calmly, and quietly in line outside until we are allowed to go back to what we were doing. Lock down- If we are in a lock down drill you need to get in a good hiding spot, such as underneath the cubbies where you cannot be seen from the classroom door. You need to stay as quiet as possible- absolutely no talking! Tornado Drill- You need to line up quickly and quietly and follow me to the hallway. Whenever we get to the classroom you are to sit down and put your hands over your head and remain silent.

19 Ending The Day Clean off your desk,
Pick up any trash within three feet of your desk. Make sure that if you have any unsharpened pencils to put them in the unsharpened bin. Wait quietly until I call your table to get your agenda signed. After it is signed pack up your materials quietly and sit until I dismiss your table. When your table is called you will quietly and safely stack your chair on the top of your desk and stand behind it. I will then dismiss each group at a time: daycare, car riders, walkers and rec.

20 Golden Rule Treat others the way that you would like to be treated. If we have a fun loving room, our year will be fun and full of love!
