Math Lab Math Lab is an elective class taken with Algebra IB. It has been designed to provide activities based on the Algebra IB lesson of the day. By reteaching and reinforcing the algebra concepts, students will have more exposure and practice with the material.

Classroom Supplies 2 spiral notebooks pencils scientific calculator Deductions on the Respectability observation sheet will be taken if materials are not brought to class.

Grading Respectability is 80% of the quarter grade. Chapter Projects are 20% of the quarter grade Each quarter grade is 45% of the semester grade Final exam is 10% of the semester grade Grade information available on Parent Connect

Respectability-- Attitude 3pts Never is publicly critical of the activity or the work of others. Always has a positive attitude about the task. 2pts Rarely is publicly critical of the project or the work of others. Often has a positive attitude about the tasks. 1pt Occasionally is publicly critical of the project or the work of other members of the group. Usually has a positive attitude about the task. 0 pts Often is publicly critical of the project or the work of other members of the group. Often does not have a positive attitude about the task.

Respectability--Focus 3pts Consistently stays focused on the task and what needs to be done. Very self-directed. 2pts Focuses on the task and what needs to be done most of the time. Other members can count on this person 1pt Focuses on the task and what needs to be done some of the time. Other group members must sometimes nag, prod, and remind to keep this person on task. 0 pts Rarely focuses on the task and what needs to be done. Lets others do the work.

Respectability--Preparation 3pts Brings needed materials to class and is ready to work. 2pts Almost always brings needed materials to class and is ready to work. 1pt Almost always brings needed materials but needs to settle down and get to work. 0 pts Often forgets needed materials or is rarely ready to get to work.

Projects After each Chapter test, a Chapter project will be assignment. This is the only out-of- class assignment given. Each project is worth 100 points and are practical applications from the chapter. Assignments are explained when given out, but, feel free to help your student understand the situation.

Ten Ways to Reduce Math Anxiety  Overcome negative self-talk.  Ask questions  Consider math a foreign language—it must be practiced.  Don’t rely on memorization to study math.  READ your math text.  Study math according to your learning style.  Get help the same day you don’t understand.  Be relaxed and comfortable while studying math.  “TALK” mathematics.  Develop responsibility for your own successes and failures.
