Verbs Express 1. Physical action 2. Mental action 3. State of being. In a triathlon, you RUN, SWIM, and RIDE a bike. He THOUGHT hard about joining the team. She WAS sad.

Noun - Person, place, thing, idea First Group (What is it?) ● — Proper nouns: ○ People, places OR ● — Common nouns: ○ Things, ideas Second Group (How is it working in the sentence?) ● Subjects ○What are we talking about? What is doing the action? ○The Implied Subject —OR ● Objects ○What is being affected?

Pronoun Takes the place of the noun. Bob took the money to Bob’s aunt and Bob’s aunt gave Bob a receipt. Bob took the money to HIS aunt and SHE gave HIM a receipt. Bob took the money to Bob’s uncle and Bob’s uncle gave Bob a receipt. Bob took the money to HIS uncle and HIS uncle gave HIM a reciept.

Conjunctions ● Conjunctions: links parts of the sentence together ● Coordinating conjunctions ● Join two or more items ● FANBOYS (For And Nor But Or Yet So) ● Subordinating conjunctions ● Join an independent clause to something that cannot stand alone (like a dependent clause or an adverb clause) ● After, although, as, as if, before, because, if, than, though, unless, etc.

Describing Words Adjectives ● — Describe nouns The QUICK, BROWN fox jumped over the LAZY dog. Adverbs ● — Describe anything else ○ — Adjectives, verbs, other adverbs The STUNNINGLY beautiful girl ran VERY QUICKLY through the hall. There will never be a standalone adjective or adverb; they always connect to some word– the word they describe.

Prepositions ● — Prepositions: gives relationships– temporal, spatial, or logical ● The dog jumped ____________ the house. ● In, over, around, behind, over, under, across, through, next to, etc

Article A kind of adjective which defines a noun as specific or unspecific. Definite: THE. Indicates a specific thing Indefinite: A/AN. Indicates a general or unspecific thing.

Interjections ○ Conveys emotion, and not usually linked grammatically to anything else. Can stand alone. ○ OUCH! Eek! Ew!

Got It? Wow, the hungry cat chased the mouse under the table and quickly ate it. Egads! The mean professor assigns us work daily and wants it on his desk by seven every morning.
