Analyzing Two Images Choose two images from the same group listed below: Two documentary/news photos Two paintings Two advertisements Your images should have enough in common to facilitate a meaningful comparison Include the images with your essay

Analyzing Two Images cont. Describe your images in detail to highlight what you want your viewers to see Provide a foundation for your analysis Choose several key points of contrast to focus on Your thesis statement should make a claim about key differences in the way that your chosen visual texts establish their purpose and achieve their persuasive effects

Documentary and News Photos: Ideas & Suggestions Analyze two photos with different political biases Analyze two photos addressing the same story from different angles of vision Analyze two photos presenting different perspectives on recent controversial issues

Paintings & Ads: Ideas & Suggestions Analyze two paintings with similar subject matter, but different dominant impressions or emotional impacts Look for two ads for the same product that are aimed at different target audiences or make appeals to different value systems
