WELCOME!!! Mrs. Hudson Sixth Grade Math and Science

 Curriculum  Classroom organization  How we will be working together this year.

 Teaching 17 years.  This is my fifth year at WSMS.  I have two grown children, Ashley and Travis  I am bilingual/Spanish.

 Promote a love for Math and Science  Help all students make a smooth transition into middle school by focusing on organizational skills and goal setting.

 Our district transitioning into Common Core Standards.  For more detailed information on Common Core Standards, go to:  s.asp s.asp We will use “Explorations in Core Math” as a transitional text in conjunction with our previous text.

 Khan Academy -Website with many instructional videos that students will have to view for homework.  Accelerated Math program. (Upcoming)  Textbook technological support. Students view videos and take notes at home as part of flipped classroom model using our textbook.  Haiku Learning System

 Great technology resources.  Website offers many math tutorials with real teachers reviewing every lesson. Videos are narrated, interactive and review the key concepts of every lesson providing excellent homework help!  See page CA27 in math text- book.

Earth Science The Scientific/Energy and Earth’s Systems Heat Density and Buoyancy Earth’s Surface and Heat Heat Inside the Earth Plate Tectonics and Earth Structure Plate Tectonics Earthquakes Volcanoes Earth’s Surface Weathering Beaches Natural Hazards Ecology Resources Ecosystems Biomes

 This year, all WSMS students, grades 6-8 will be using an organized binder to have school wide uniformity and streamlined organization.  Please help your child keep this up by checking it periodically. We will conduct binder checks at school. Extreme binder make overs may be needed and done at school.

 Haiku is my interactive website currently under construction. On this website, I will be posting homework, assignments, instructional videos, projects, resources and technology links that will give students and parents guidance to all aspects of our classroom  Instructions on how to sign up and access will be forthcoming.

 Remind is a texting and ing notification system I will be using to broadcast homework assignments, special dates and event notifications.  To sign up for text notifications: dial (669) and in the message, then send.  To sign up for notifications: go to 

 Assignments submitted on time will be graded on a point system, with an overall percentage calculated for a grade. Standard Grading: A= % B=89-80%C=79-70% D= 69-60% F=59% below

 Aries.net is an on-line website that allows you to see your child’s grades, performance, and homework assignments at any time. You can access it directly from the school’s website. Aries.net is live; meaning the scores will be visible as soon as I enter them. You should have received the school’s information regarding Aries.Net.  I will send a grade report every two weeks so you may stay abreast of your child’s progress and missing assignments.

 4 ~ 100% Accuracy  3 ~ Assignments completed on time 75% Problems missed Corrections to be completed  2 ~ Assignment incomplete 50% or more complete Corrections need to be made  1 ~ Assignment incomplete Less than 50% complete Problems to be corrected  0 ~ Assignment Missing  All homework assignments that receive a 1 or higher can be corrected to a score of 4. Any assignment that receives a 0 can be corrected to a score of 3.

 Absent Work: Students have the number of days absent to make up assignments. It is the students’ responsibility to get his/her make up work! Please contact me regarding absences if you need work ahead of time.  Late work will be accepted but can receive a top score of 3 on the homework rubric.  Do not throw away any completed work in math or science until the grading period is complete at end of semester.
