DISTRIBUTION OF PEOPLE

The distribution of people in America Population of the America is about 790 million. In the Americas, U.S.A, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia have the most people. Population density - the number of people who live on a certain place, divided by the size of the area where they live. High population rate – means that many people live in a space that is relative small. High population rate causes overcrowding and pollution. Highest population density in America: North America = N.Y, Chicago, and Mexico city. South America = Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires

Bad climate = less people Why? - Less time for outside activities - movement is less easier. MIGRATION IN AMERICA

Many people that live in the Americas were born in different places. People who leave their homelands for different reasons are consider: In their country Emigrants- because they left, or emigrated. In the country they moved Immigrants – they came or immigrated to the Americas This movements leave important marks on society. (mixing of culture, where people live, racial diversity)

It can be hard to Adapt Sadly many immigrants are victims of: Prejudice Unfair thinking. It can come from ignorance of other culture or other people. Xenophobia Fear or dislike of foreigners or foreigner things. It can cause into work discrimination. Indifference toward the suffering of people. Racism Treating people differently based on the color of their skin or physical features. Racist people think they are better than other races. It can cause human rights violations.

Causes of Migration CauseExamples Voluntary migration Happens for many reason. - Change of scenery - Study - Better opportunities Force Migration When people is force to leave their country. - Slaves who were brought to America Political situation When people are in danger because of the political situation on their country -People that fear for their family and own safety and feel the only choice is to escape. (Cuban exiles) - Unemployment and poverty - People who leave their country to find jobs and a better life. (crossing the U.S.A border)

Effect of Immigration Family Families lose contact. Person is not physically there to help solve problems. The economy Many professionals emigrate and the country loses a valuable and much needed resources. Culture Immigrants bring their culture with them. This adds new elements to the culture of the region they immigrated.

Natural Cause of migration Some natural resources can cause large groups of people to migrate. Some examples: Floods cause by heavy rain can destroy houses, animal, and people belongings. Droughts cause by the lack of rain Reservoirs can dry up and fires can occur. Crops may also be damage Natural disasters can affect everyone, but poor communities tend to be affected the most.

Political cause of migration Citizens of a country can have different ways of thinking, political ideas, and opinions. These differences sometimes can lead to exile Exile occurs when people are forced to leave their own country. It can also be voluntary. People who exile their country can become refugees Refugees= A person who flees for safety ( as from war or political persecution)usually to a foreign country.

External and Internal Migration External emigration – occurs when people move from one country to another. Example: Mexico to the U.S.A Internal emigration – ocurrs when people move from one area to another within the same country. Example: Emigrating from the country side (rural area) to the city (Urban area). Example: Utuado to San Juan.

Migration Story Write a story using at least 5 of the vocabulary words or concepts learned in class. The story can include Cause of migration Type of migration Effect of migration Struggles Reasons for choosing then new country.
