The British colonists wanted to take over French lands between the Appalachians and the Mississippi River and Canada to make money in the fur trade. The French New France had 3 colonies: Canada, land areas between the Appalachians and the Mississippi River, including New Orleans Their economy was based on trade with the Native Americans.

He was killed at the Battle of Fort Duquesne, (present Pittsburg, Pennsylvania) using ineffective battle tactics.
