Analyzing a Painting p.22 We can analyze a painting by describing it, mentioning what it contains and who drew it, defining some vocabulary words, talking about the general atmosphere, and telling our feelings when looking at it. Ms.Ohood Ad-Dera’n

Using Present Continuous pp.31  When we describe an action in a painting, we use the present continuous.  The nurse is looking for the patient.  The children are playing in the park. Ms.Ohood Ad-Dera’n is are am + V. + -ing

Spelling Rules for –ing endings pp.31 What is a syllable? A unit of organization for a sequence of speech sounds. A syllable should have one vowel, and other consonants. Vowels are a, e, i, o, u. Any other sound is a consonant, such as /t/, /s/, /k/, /p/ …etc. Ms.Ohood Ad-Dera’n

Syllable Division 1. When dividing a word into syllables, we first count the vowels the word has. 2. We have to subtract any silent sounds, like /e/ in move. 3. We also subtract any repeated vowel, like /e/ in stream. 4. The number of the vowels left is the same as the number of vowels. Ms.Ohood Ad-Dera’n

Beach The painting Beach was drawn by Mark Gray in The painting in general is gloomy and busy. About ten miserable men are dragging an old net for fishing. They seem tired and depressed and their clothes are colorful and cheap. The weather is cloudy and warm. Many dark clouds are covering the vast sky, and the sea looks calm and cold. In the background, other exhausted men are also fishing. This painting makes us feel grieved and unsafe.
