My Philosophy of Education By Tom Conners

What is a teacher? Everyone has their own definition of what a teacher is. A teacher to me is someone that is sensitive to each individual’s needs and learning styles to present information in a why that the individual can take that knowledge and understand it. If a child can not understand the information they can not take that knowledge and make it their own to learn it.

To Me a Teacher is like a Chef Chef’s prepare and present food that will be appetizing to the individual that the food is presented to. Teachers need to do the same. Teachers need to prepare and present information that will be appealing to the individual that the teacher is preparing the information for.

Each child will by my hungry customer. And when their not hungry I will present a lesson so appealing that they will eat it anyway. Each child will be special and be accepted as an individual in my restaurant or classroom. I will understand each child and use this understanding to add special ingredients to my lessons.

Each lesson will be a buffet of knowledge. It will be a delicious mixture of information that addresses all of the intelligences. The main ingredients will be appealing and meaningful to my students. Students will also have the opportunity to add their own ingredients.

But what if a student doesn’t like the meal I have prepared? Well then that student will have the opportunity to challenge me. Critical thinking and the power of challenging the meals will lead students to be empowered. This will lead them to be motivated to think about the lessons personally and not as a mass. Some of the best dishes are discovered by accident.

My main goal as a Teacher is not to engorge my students with knowledge, but to help them find their particular taste in knowledge. I want to show students that they can be teachers too and cook up excellent lessons just as good as mine. Giving the students the ability of self motivation and the sense of influence on their school life is my goal.

As a teacher I will not only find new and more ways to preparing knowledge in books but also be influenced by my students the most. You can learn from a book, but you can’t understand it till you read it to someone else and find out what they got out of it.

I think my teaching style is impacted by my personal beliefs and my experiences. I have had some teachers that have cooked up the most absolute horrible stuff you have ever seen. Then I have had other teachers that cook almost nothing. My most favorite teachers allowed hands on and fun projects. I will follow in their footsteps.

Mmmmmm This has made hungry for knowledge!
