Welcome to 6 th Grade Social Studies Mrs. LeBron Room 101

All About Mrs. LeBron  9 th year teaching with Monroe Township  Formerly a 1 st grade teacher at Mill Lake (Miss Comiskey)

What you Will Learn This year Ancient Civilizations  Early Humans and Societies  Mesopotamia  Egypt and Kush  Ancient India  Ancient China

What your Child Will Learn This Year As we cover these world history topics your child will: o Practice reading like a “historian” and strengthen research skills o Learn effective note taking and outlining techniques (the Cornell way) o Refine organization skills o Use and further develop writing skills o Work cooperatively in groups to explore new ideas

Being Prepared for Class To be successful in this class your child will need to bring:  Organized binder with loose leaf paper and dividers  Pens (multiple colors), pencil, and highlighter  Homework agenda  Completed homework assignments

SS Online Textbook  Students will have access to Holt World History books online (link on Mrs. LeBron’s website)  Usernames and passwords assigned Monday, September 23 rd during class tutorial  Permission slips will be sent home to be signed and returned

Student Expectations  Come to class prepared and on time  Show respect for yourself, your classmates and your teacher  Be an active participant  Listen closely to whomever is speaking  Put forth your best effort ALWAYS

Grades How your child will be graded:  20% = Habits of Mind (Attitude, Effort, Behavior, Cooperation, & Participation)  20% = Independent Practice (Classwork and Homework)  20% = Formative Assessments (Do now's, Quizzes, Quick Writes, Entrance and Exit Passes)  40% = Summative Assessments (Unit Tests, Projects, Formal Writing Pieces, and Portfolios)

Vista Awards & Team Activities  Each marking period our team will have an awards ceremony to celebrate academic achievement and character.  We will also have special team activities from time to time for which we may ask you to contribute $1 - $3.

Team T-Shirts  Show team spirit by purchasing a Vista T- shirt  Students will be asked to wear shirts several Fridays throughout the school year  Cost $10  Order forms due to Mrs. LeBron by Friday, September 20th
