Psalams 139:13-16

 Even though skin is exposed to the harsh environment, it is very sensitive and fragile  Three important things to take care of skin:  1. keep it clean  2. keep it moist  3. keep it protected

 Common Skin Problems  Acne- pores of the skin become clogged with oil Wash twice daily Use moisturizers sparingly Eat balanced diet Don’t squeeze and pick at acne, will make it worse Avoid touching your face, it leaves oil Don’t rub areas inflamed areas with washcloth/towel  Warts – growth on the skin caused by a virus  Eczema – itchy, scaly, inflamed skin  Psoriasis – over production of skin cells, result in large red scaly patches of skin

 Your hair is made up of dead cells!  Hair resides in small pockets called follicles, when hair cells die, they are forced out of the follicle and new hair cells form to take their place  Common Problems:  Dandruff – flaking of the outer layer of dead skin cells  Head lice – insects that live in your hair

 Common Eye Problems  Farsightedness – can se far, but not close  Nearsightedness- can see near, but not far  Astigmatism – distorted vision  Pinkeye – an infection causing inflamation

 Taking Care of Your Ears  Protect ears from the weather  Avoid loud noises  Use earplugs when around loud devices  Keep small/sharp objects away from ears  Have regular hearing exams  Ear Problems  Infections- inflammation of ear canal  Earaches – pain in the ear/throat  Motion sickness – feeling of dizziness/nausea, caused by ear moving around, confusing the brain

 As an adult you will have 32 teeth, and that is it!  Problems:  Gingivitis – gum disease caused by build up of plaque and tartar  Plaque – grainy, sticky coating that forms on your teeth Brush regularly to limit, and have teeth cleaned to remove build ups  Cavity- tooth decay that leaves hole through tooth

 Care  Brush/floss regularly (2x per day)  Avoid sugary foods  Replace tooth brush after illness, or when worn  Receive regular check-ups

 Common Problems  Blister- caused by rubbing against foot, a water- filled pouch forms at contact spot  Corn – overgrowth of skin on toe  Callus – hard thick part of skin on foot  Bunion – bump on the inside of the foot near the big toe Most of these are caused by poor fitting shoes  Athlete’s foot – fungus growing in warm/moist places of foot, very contagious  In-grown nails – nails cut into the skin
