Human Services Program and Profession HN Seminar Unit 1

Seminar Traffic Light System 1.When I type the word Green – you can type 2.When I type the word Red – you stop typing 3.When I type the word Yellow – finish up typing Side line talking is not allowed. If this happens I will set the monitor for your posts to not be allowed. Everyone has a different connection speed and this is also a time to learn about the concepts for the week.

Your First Step to Success! By now I am sure that you are all overwhelmed just looking at the work for the first week of class. Trust me you will all be fantastic. One of the most important concepts to remember is to click open Unit 1. Once you do you will see many Icons plus when you look above the Icons you will see some text to read. Let’s do a little run through for the first Unit.

Now that you have an idea as to what the pages in the class will look like on to seminar! Seminar is a chance for all of us to get together and discuss the topics of the week along with asking questions. Seminar is a very important time in all classes where we have the opportunity to share idea. One important concept to remember about seminars is we have flex seminars. This means you have the option to attend a seminar which you will be invited to weekly that fits with your schedule. All seminars cover the same information.

Two of the most important tools you need for class is the syllabus and always checking the Announcements when you log into class. The Announcements are just as important to read for this is where you will find weekly information that will help you with class or let you know of any changes that are happening.

Conditional Admission All Kaplan University undergraduate students will be considered conditionally admitted to the University and will not receive financial aid while in this status. All University policies nevertheless apply to such students, and they enjoy all the rights and resources of a fully instated student during the period of conditional admittance.

At the end of the fifth week of classes, the University will review the academic performance of conditionally admitted students. Students must keep a grade of 65% in all classes to stay enrolled. The University will reverse the enrollment of any student not meeting these criteria, and such a student will not owe any financial obligation to the University except for the application fee, which is non-refundable.

Students whose enrollments are reversed in this manner may not reapply for admission for one year unless they qualify for a waiver as applied by the dean of their respective school. If you have any questions, please contact your Academic Advisor.

SYLLABUS for HN 115 A Syllabus is a course outline of a program of study. The syllabus for HN115 is a course guideline to help you to understand what is expected of you through the course along with when your work is due. Kaplan University starts the week on Wednesday at 12:01 am and ends the week on Tuesday at 11:59 pm each week for 10 weeks.

Syllabus Policies Late Policies Projects are due Tuesday 11:59 pm ET of their assigned Unit. When you read the syllabus you will see that there are late policies for the discussions, seminars, and projects. Can anyone tell me what the late policies are for these three areas?

Print out your syllabus for it will guide you through class. Each area of work has a rubric. “A rubric is a set of printed instructions. “ You will find a number of different rubrics for discussions, seminar, and projects. Remember that each rubric is different so make sure to read them before doing your work.

One very important topic in the syllabus is Communication. Kaplan and AIM are what we use to communicate with each other. You need to check your Kaplan daily. When responding back to an you must use Standard English in your response to your instructor be it in this class or any other class. This also applies for messages from your cell phone!

1. Discussions are a big part of your grade. 2. Post early in the week and at least three times during the week. Do Not Wait until the last day of the week to post to the discussion. 3. Do not wait until the last day of the week to submit your work for many times the class system may go down and remember you will lose points for late work.

What I need to know about HN115 1.Human Services Programs and Professions - HN115 is set up in two parts. 2.Units 1 -4 will look at different roles that professionals in the field of human services play in public and private organizations. 3. After completing Unit 1 and 2 in Unit 3 you will start to set up your own degree plan.

4. During Unit 3 you will look at elective courses that you want to take to give you a well rounded degree. 5. In Unit 4 you have a two part project. The first is to pick the degree you want –Associate, or Bachelor’s. Fill in the excel sheet with your electives. 6. The second part of the project will be you writing a one page paper on why you chose the electives you did to make your degree well rounded. I am here to help you with your degree planning so do not worry!

All work must be completed on time for at the end of Unit 5 is when administration will be looking at your grades in your classes to make sure you are at a 65% in each of them. If you are at 65% or better you will remain in class. If you are below 65% you will be taken out of class. Part II of class will pertain to the readings in the book, seminar, discussion questions and a quiz. The big part of class with projects is done at the end of Unit 4 – Your Degree Plan.

For those of you who are taking any sections with me I have this posted in the announcements. We have covered a lot of material tonight. Remember I know you can all do it and succeed with your goals. Before we end tonight are there any questions?
