Can you Remember Learning Goal #1? I will be able to describe the four sectors of the hospitality industry.

Activity Working in pairs Each pair will create a puzzle. On each puzzle piece, each group will create a collage of pictures to represent the 4 sectors and it’s characteristics. Each group will define their sector, its characteristics and show how it connects to the other 3 sectors.

Learning Goal #2 I will be able to explain how different types of services and events are associated with the different sectors of the industry. How do the 4 sectors in the Hospitality Industry work together? Why is it important for the four sectors of the hospitality industry to work together successfully?

Working Together The hospitality sectors must work together to successfully meet all of a customers needs. On a typical trip, a customer will use all four sectors. If one worker or one attraction leaves you with a bad impression, the guest might walk away with a bad impression of the whole trip.

Activity – In Groups You are planning a trip to New York City. What steps would you go through to plan your trip and make it a success? E.g. Step 1 – Research flights and book your airplane ticket. You will present your trip to the class. Remember, a trip includes all sectors of the hospitality industry.

Reflection What difficulties did you encounter when planning your trip? Was it easy to find the information that you needed? Why or why not? When you are on your trip, what are some possibly negative things that you might encounter that would leave a bad impression on you? E.g. at your hotel the worker dropped your luggage on your toe.

Self Quiz – write down the following answers What are the 4 main Sectors in the Hospitality Industry? Give an example of each Explain how the 4 sectors work together to ensure customer needs are met.

Learning Goal #3 I will be able to explain how the location of facilities and quality of resources can affect customer service and satisfaction Open the following webpage hotel-location.html hotel-location.html According to the article, why is a hotel’s location important?

Activity – In Partners You are going on a beach vacation. Your job is stressful, all you want to do is lie on a beach, eat at fantastic restaurants and maybe do a bit of shopping. Step 1 – choose a destination (anywhere is the world) Step 2 – find a hotel that fits your objectives (beach, restaurant, and shopping) Step 3 – present your trip.

Learning Goal #4 I will be able to explain the effect of weather and seasonal changes on the availability, pricing, and quality of products and services within the tourism industry. Which vacation to Miami Beach would you rather go on?

Weather – sunny, rainy, hurricanes etc. Seasons - Fall, Spring, Summer, Winter Off Peak Seasons– seasons with the lowest demand. E.g. Winter in a beach location Peak Seasons – seasons with the highest demand. E.g. winter at a ski resort.

Weather and Seasonal Changes How do you think Weather and Seasonal Chances affects Pricing? Availability? Quality of Products?
