WELCOME TO LANGUAGE ARTS! Mrs. Gingrass Resource Teacher

ABOUT ME  I live in Morton with my husband and two children: Madison, 9, and Eliot, 5.  I graduated from Rockford College in 2008 with a BA in History and Secondary Education.  I have endorsements in both Language Arts and Special Education.  I am halfway through the MS in Special Education program at ISU.  This is my 7 th year teaching Special Education and my 5 th year teaching at Morton Junior High School.

RESOURCE LANGUAGE ARTS  Follow the general education curriculum as closely as possible  Freedom to move at a slower pace  Additional time to review/re-teach as needed  Daily Language Review packets  Independent reading goals & progress monitoring

COURSE GOALS  To further develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills  To read complex texts closely – fiction and nonfiction!  To write arguments, narratives, and informative texts  To listen to ideas presented and participate in collaborative discussions  To develop grammar, usage, mechanics, knowledge of language, and vocabulary

HOMEWORK  Every effort will be made to complete homework assignments in class.  Students will be able to answer questions and get extra help as needed.  Less stress at home  Flexible

CHECKING HOMEWORK & GRADES  Resource webpage All white & green team assignments are posted each day on the resource webpage. This webpage is reviewed with the students each day in study hall.webpage  MyHomework app Students will have this app on their iPads to keep track of their assignments. Assignments are automatically added to the assignment calendar.  PowerSchool Students will have the PowerSchool app on their iPads. Please check your student’s grades on a weekly basis.
