Picasso’s Blue Period This period is all about somber paintings done in blues and blue-greens. There are many paintings during this period which show the poorest in Europe of this time. Starving mothers with children was a popular topic. Why do you think Picasso chose blue for these works? What feeling does blue convey? What do you think this woman’s situation is?
During this period, Picasso used more cheery colors like orange and pink and featured such subjects as acrobats and harlequins.
Cubism In his cubist works, Picasso analyzed his subject according to what geometric shapes were present. He helped to co- found this with Georges Braque. They used brownish and neutral colors.
