2. Curriculum Reading We do whole group, small group and independent reading Spelling We focus on high frequency words and word families. Tests on Fridays. Writing We have a Writer’s Workshop time daily. Math Students started to switch teachers Monday. Letters will came home Monday. 5. Communication Email (hopefully you’ve received some from me by now) Don’t send an email in the afternoon to change dismissal plan. You should get responses from me within 24 hours. Send a note (Take home folder or Red Folder). Call the office. I will send your child home the regular way without a note or phone call. I will communicate through the monthly newsletters, calendars, and weekly spelling sheet. I will email and call you with specific concerns. 6. Parent Involvement Let me know about any concerns or questions. Volunteer Please fill out the back of the Activity Fee note if you want to be contacted about volunteering. Check your child’s work and discuss their day. Come for lunch Check in at the office and meet your child at the cafeteria at 11:30. More details on the website.

7. Student of the Week Your child can bring in up to 10 pictures and 5 additional items to share with us by Wed. of their week. They share, we interview them and then I put together a book for them. This is kept at school for everyone to read and then sent home after everyone gets a turn to be Student of the Week. The schedule is on the website and I’ll list student names in the monthly calendar.

9. Opening Routine Empty backpack, turn in notes and mark your lunch Organize your locker and get your bellwork

10. Bellwork Students start this and try to work on it independently. If they want to return a library book before Media Day, they put it on their desk. We correct it together and interact with it on the Smart Board

11. Class Meeting Greeting and Sharing (Each person has a day each week they can choose to share something about their life with us-not toys.) Play a game and do the calendar and math routines

12. Reading Workshop Read to self, Whole group reading, Literacy Choices, Independent Work Small groups will start soon

13. Recess/Lunch and Quiet Time Recess first and then lunch begins around 11:30 Quiet time in the room after lunch (No talking-choice of read, write, draw or rest) About 10 minutes.

14. Writer’s Workshop Students try to write on their own while I walk around and meet with them individually.

16. Math All students are learning the same standards and using the Harcourt Math series and other materials, but classes are adjusted to meet that group’s particular needs. Mega Math games are on the website for additional practice or to extend their learning at home.

17. Health/Social Studies/Science We have a new Science resource for all elementary grades. Updates on what we are studying will be in the weekly newsletter and grade level curriculum guides will be available online soon (Shakopee website).
