2 Where to start? If you were interested in joining a club one of the first things you can do is go onto the badminton england website and go on the club search, where you can search for a suitable club E.g. Junior, Senior, Beginners. At the clubs you will train under a coach, until opportunities arise where you can participate in club tournaments and county trials of your age group, depending on how well you do say if you had won quite a few tournaments in your county, you can get put forward by your coach into harder competitions such as national tournaments for example.

4 Badminton Associations
These Associations aim to get as many people participating in badminton as possible as well as provide funding to the sport and clubs within the county/region and are scattered all over the country, in order to not only increase participation but discover players with potential talent to be the best who then can advance up the performance pathway when they are recognized as one of the best players in their county. 5 LTAD – long Term Athlete Development.
A LTAD model is used to develop athletes to become elites from a very early age throughout their life. Badminton England provides the LTAD model, first introductions of the LTAD model was in 2003 and development increased vastly from 2004 and still is being developed to this day.

8 Funding and Facilities
Sport England is one of the main funders for participation in badminton, who fund clubs and badminton organizations. Badminton England also funds badminton development but focus mainly on those who have proven themselves in county/regional competitions and they provide training facilities and academies for them. National Badminton Centre (NBC) provides training courses and coaching to all badminton players of any skill level from beginners to uprising elite players. The NBC is the place that most elite players are sent to, to train for elite competitions such as world championships and the olympics.

11 GB Badminton GB badminton is a programme introduced by UKsport for athletes to support them as they show potential to achieve success in world events and the Olympic games. The programme is funded by UK sport in a number of areas such as Training, International Tournaments, medical Insurance and sport science support. GB Badminton is broken down into 4 Levels… World and Olympic Medalists – Level A World Class performance – Level B (Age 25-30) International Performance – Level C (21-25) GB Talent Pool – Level E/F (15-21)

Training… English High Performance Centres (HPC) Home Country Training Centres NBC Sport-science support Here are 2 of several entry requirements for this Level (However only 2 of the several are needed in order to be permitted a place)… Individual Medal at European Junior Championships during the last 24 months. Reached the quarter-finals (doubles) at World Junior Championships during the last 24 months. Entry process… GB to Identify talent  NBC Test player  Player is then selected or given feedback on what to improve

13 International Performance – Level D/C
Training… Full time training at NBC NBC Training Activity Here are 3 of several entry requirements for this level… Win against European top 4 players or players with world Ranking higher than European top 4 standard in the last 12 months. Reached Final in Grand Prix event in the last 12 months. International win over World & Olympic Medallists or World Class Performance players in the last 12 months.

14 World Class Performance Level – B
Training… Full time training at NBC NBC training activity Players Must Acquire for entry… A world ranking of 8 or higher Or Win against the top 4 World ranked players in major international events (BWF Championship events, Super Series and Grand Prix Gold/Grand Prix). Reached Semi-final or better at Grand Prix Gold events or above.

15 World and Olympic Medallists – Level A
Training… Full time training at the NBC NBC training activity One single requirement for entry… Won a medal or more in individual Championships (OG, WC) during the last 20 months.
