2. What I am not looking for… Napoleon was a tyrant who was self-centered and ruled unfairly. He crowned himself emperor by taking the crown from the pope. For these reasons, I believe he is a tyrant.

3. Better… Napoleon was a tyrant as the emperor of France. Napoleon rose to power by killing millions, as he deliberately said that he would think nothing of losing one million Frenchmen in battle. Those he lost in battle were also drafted and were often times not native Frenchmen. Napoleon also overtook the throne twice by seizing power in a military coup.

4. Even better than that... Napoleon Bonaparte became emperor of France by staging a coup de tat, but proved to be a heroic leader for the French. The Napoleonic Code completed the French Revolution by instilling Enlightenment ideals of equality into French Society. With his imperialist policy, he was also able to improve the standard of living and provide for the needs of the French. In addition, taxes were lowered and fairer.
