Other movies are designed primarily to amuse and entertain. Which type of movie do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. 3 Poison Definition Any substance, solid, liquid, or gas, that causes injury or death when introduced into the body

6 First Aid for Poison Ingestion Take container to phone, call 911 or Poison Control Central & Monitor ABC’s Inhalation Remove victim to fresh air, call 911 or Poison Control Central & Monitor ABC’s

7 First Aid for Poison Absorption –Remove from source of poison and flush with lots of water call 911 or Poison Control Central & Monitor ABC’s Injection –Try to identify source of the injection, call 911 or Poison Control Central & Monitor ABC’s

8 Some First Aid Kits Activated Charcoal –Neutralizes certain poisons Ipecac –Expectorant properties (causes vomiting) Watch sudden illness video: Intro, then allergic reactions

9 Heat Disorders

10 3 Types Heat Cramps –Excessive fluid loss in muscles Heat Exhaustion –excessive water loss from body Heatstroke –a medical emergency, high body temperatures (hyperthermia)

11 First Aid Heat Cramps –Drink water and light stretching Heat Exhaustion –Drink water and discontinue activity Heatstroke –Transport to hospital immediately Watch heat related emergencies

12 Hypothermia Definition: Severe body cooling, which can occur at temperatures well above freezing

13 Hypothermia Causes: –Exposure to low or rapidly dropping temperatures First Aid: –Remove victim from cold –Call 911 or transport to hospital immediately Watch cold related emergencies

14 Burns

15 Definition: Injuries resulting from exposure to heat, chemicals, electricity, or radiation

16 Burns First Degree: Involves only the first layer of skin (painful)

17 Burns Second Degree: Deeper than first degree burns, skin will look red and have blisters (most painful)

18 Burns Third Degree: Burn extends through the skin and into the structures below the skin, looks brown and charred(not painful)

19 First Aid for Burns Minor Burns Check the Scene, then check victim Cool the burned area Loosely cover the burned area Do not break blisters! Major Burns –Call 911 or transport to hospital immediately Watch soft tissues injuries: BURNS
