March 14, 2013 5:00 p.m. AMHS Auditorium

2 The purpose of the AMHS Cheerleaders
The purpose of the AMHS Cheerleaders is to : Promote and support good sportsmanship, school spirit and school loyalty. Learn and develop leadership qualities, as well as to learn and practice those skills necessary for working cooperatively as a member of a squad. Assist in achieving goals of interscholastic activities.

3 What is expected of an AMHS Cheerleader?
Maintain a high level of physical fitness Demonstrate academic mastery Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude regarding classroom and non-classroom activities Consistently demonstrate a high level of cheerleader skills Maintain academic performance. Make a commitment to the school, student body, and squad to be a positive school representative. He or she must also realize that people will be watching him or her more than any other student in the school; therefore, he or she must NOT act in any way that would cause embarrassment to the school or the squad.

4 “What squad can I make??” Varsity- shall be represented by up to 15 students of senior or junior standing. Tryouts: April 1st – 5th Junior Varsity- shall be represented by up to 15 students of sophomore or freshman standing. Tryouts: April 15th – 18th Competition- shall be represented by students of senior- freshman standing. Tryouts: During Varsity and JV audition dates School Mascot- Beginning the school year, AMHS will have a mascot. These students will consist of 1 rising junior, and 1 rising senior.

5 NCA Summer Camp Every cheerleader is REQUIRED to attend NCA Summer Camp. The camp dates are June 24th – June 27th, 2013, at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. An initial payment of $125 is due by 04/22 to Coach Shelby, check or money order only. Additional information will be provided at the first squad meeting

6 Eligibility for Tryouts
You must be currently passing at least 5 classes and return the completed recommendation letters from ALL teachers. Try-out fee is $20.00 and must be submitted with completed packet to Coach Shelby during 1st and 3rd periods only by March 22nd NO EXCEPTIONS. ALL components of the tryout packet must be completed prior to tryouts (cheerleader information sheet, permission slip, general information sheet, 7 recommendation forms, copy of current progress report (9 week), copy of insurance card, current physical, and $20.00 tryout fee.

9 Tryout Schedule April 1-April 5
Prospective cheerleaders MUST attend EVERYDAY of tryout clinic. Day 1: Conditioning (girls will be taught chant, cheer, and dance for audition) Day 2: Learn Chant & Cheer Day 3: Learn Dance, Jump Sequence Day 4: Review Chant, Cheer, Dance, Jumps, Tumble Day 5: Formal Tryout & Squad Selection

10 JV Tryout Schedule April 15-April 18
Prospective cheerleaders MUST attend EVERYDAY of tryout clinic. Day 1: Conditioning and Learn Chant & Cheer Day 2: Learn Dance, Jump Sequence Day 3: Review Chant, Cheer, Dance, Jumps, Tumble Day 4: Formal Tryout & Squad Selection

11 Financial Obligations
Cheerleaders will be responsible for: Summer Camp Uniform rental: (shell [2], skirt, and bodyline), camp wear, shoes, bow, poms, bag, bloomers, and warm-up. More information will be given at the first official squad meetings Fundraising as needed

12 Cheerleader Academic/Discipline Score Sheet Accumulation of 12 demerits result in immediate dismissal from squad – no refunds provided Demerit Offenses: Demerits issued: Chewing gum (practice or performances) 1 Demerit Unexcused tardy to practice Failure to provide a weekly progress report No- Call/Late to practice or game 2 Demerits Unsportsmanlike Conduct (See Article IV section C) Not cooperating with captains/co-captains 3 Demerits Inappropriate Language Failure to complete assigned duties Unexcused absence from practice Not Dressing out for practice 5 Demerits Detention Inappropriate Conduct in Uniform Unexcused absence from Game 6 Demerits Leaving practice or game without permission Disrespect shown to the coach, faculty or staff Insubordination Disciplinary procedure in school (ISS) 10 Demerits Out of School Suspension 12 Demerits (immediate removal from the squad)
