41 Practice Logs Practice is an important and essential aspect of learning to play an instrument. It is a never- ending process which pushes us to improve and become mature musicians. Each week students will be required to practice for 100 minutes. It is suggested that students practice 20 minutes Monday through Friday to review what was learned in class the corresponding day. It is understood that some students may have other obligations during the week, therefore, students may break up the practice as they wish. Practice Records will be due on Thursday each week. Late practice records will be accepted on Friday only for a reduced grade. Practice Logs Practice is an important and essential aspect of learning to play an instrument. 45 Maintenance of Instruments Since your instrument will be played everyday, it is important to keep it clean and in good working condition. Clarinets & Saxophones should have at least two good reeds at all times (and rotate playing these). Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, & Oboe players should swab the inside of their instrument after each time it is played. Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone and Tuba players should keep valve oil and slide grease in their case. I will give students instructions on cleaning their instrument thoroughly.

46 Concert Attendance Attendance to all Concerts and Performances is mandatory. Each student has a responsibility to the entire group and their attendance is imperative. For a band student, a concert is equivalent to the EOG in Math, Science, English or Social Studies. If a student misses a concert or required performance, an alternative assignment will be given. If this assignment is not completed within a week of the performance date, 25 points will be taken from the student’s final grade. I understand that there a certain circumstances that cannot be avoided and occasionally a student will need to miss a concert. Please contact me as soon as you know your son or daughter will have to miss a concert. Upon my discretion, some circumstances will be excused. Concert Attire – it is important for students to look uniform when performing. The performance should be about the music, not what individuals are wearing. Women: White button up blouse/with collar Black dress pants or long black skirt Black dress shoes (no large jewelry larger then a quarter) Men: White button up blouse/with collar Black tie Black dress trousers Black dress shoes & black socks (no tennis shoes) Concert Attendance Attendance to all Concerts and Performances is mandatory.
