6 Second battle of bull run In September 4-9 1862 Lee invades the north with 50000 confederates and heads for harpers ferry.

7 Gettysburg A lot of people died in the battle of Gettysburg. 3700 got killed 18000 wounded or missing. July 1-3 1863.

9 Battle of Antietam  In September 17, 1862 preliminary emancipation proclamation freeing slave issued by president Lincoln

10 Battle of Chancellorsville  The union loses are 17000 killed, wounded and missing out of 130000. the confederates 13000 out of 60000.  May 1-3, 1863.

11 Battle of cold harbor A costly mistake by Grant results in 7000 union casualties in twenty minutes during an offensive against fortified rebels at cold harbor in Virginia. May 13-June 12 1864.

13 Fort Sumter In April 12, 1861 – at 4:30 a.m. confederates under gen. Pierre Beauregard open fire with 50 cannons upon fort Sumter in Charleston, south Carolina. The civil war begins.

14 Lee surrenders  On April 10 1865 – celebration breaks out in Washington.

15 Chattanooga  In the west, Sherman, with 100000 men begins an advanced toward Atlanta to engage Joseph E Johnston 60000 strong army of Tennessee.  September 19-20, 1863.

16 March to the sea  Sherman reaches savannah in Georgia leaving in behind a 300 mile long path of destruction 60 miles wide all the way to Atlanta. Sherman then telegraphs Lincoln, offering him savannah as a Christmas present. On May 6, 1864.

17 How many died  Over 620000 Americans died in the war with diseases killing twice as many as those lost in battle.

18 Chickamauga  President Lincoln delivers a two minute Gettysburg address at a ceremony dedicating the battlefield as a national ceremony. September 19-20, 1863.

19 Lincoln shot  President Abraham Lincoln dies at 7:22 in the morning.  John Wilkes booth killed Abraham Lincoln.

22 END OF THE WAR  THE WAR ENDED AT GETTYSBURG 1865 WHEN THE NORTH WON AT GETTYSBURG.

23 solutions  The north won over the south so slavery ended.
