Transcription/Translation foldable Fold your paper so the two ends meet in the middle. Label Transcription on one side and Translation on the other.

Transcription WHAT? DNA is transcribed into mRNA. That means I am copying DNA and making mRNA. Location? Nucleus Why? DNA cannot leave the nucleus, so the messenger RNA has to take the nucleotide sequence to the ribosome to make proteins. Cut out the picture below. Label and color the DNA blue and the mRNA red.

Translation What? –mRNA nucleotide code is translated into an amino acid sequence to make a protein. How? -tRNA brings an amino acid with an anticodon to the rRNA -tRNA binds to a codon in mRNA and releases a amino acid -a chain of amino acids is formed = PROTEIN! Location? ribosome (rRNA) Why? Need proteins to carry out life functions

Translation con’t Cut out the picture below. Label and color: mRNA –red (B) tRNA-green Amino acids- yellow Ribosome-pink Circle 3 bases on mRNA and label as codon. Circle complementary 3 bases on tRNA and label as anti- codon. Label the amino acid sequence.

Cut out the steps of protein synthesis, and glue them in order on the back of your foldable. http://www.woodrow.org/teachers/bi/1994/protein_ synthesis.html
