1 Unit 1 – Improving Productivity Instructions ~ 100 words per box

2 1.1Why did you use a computer? What other systems / resources could you have used? I used a computer because it is much quicker and then if I am writing it and I use a pen the I would need to start again if you make an mistake. I used a computer so all I need to do is press a button and then it would erase the mistake. And it is much quicker than writing it out because by the time you have written a long word you could have typed a sentence. People would rather have a typed document because it looks more professional. I can get pictures off the internet I do not have to be an artist.

3 1.2What skills did you need to learn in order to use PowerPoint? I learnt all of the skills needed to use power point when I was in year 6. it wouldn’t look the same as it would now to year 6 because I would use colour now and I wouldn’t use colour well in year 6 because I used lots of colours and now I use a few colours that match. I also use different formatting. You need to know how to use all of the settings on it. You would need to know how to use the lettering. On the program itself. I had to learn how to use different fonts in the PowerPoint but I didn’t use all of them for a long period of time, I just use sizes 12 or below. I do not use different colours because it will not look professional.

4 1.2What resources did you need to make the presentation successful? You need the program itself to start off the presentation. you need a keyboard, mouse, and the computer to start off what you are creating. You need PowerPoint, so you can edit what you are typing and you can also have a custom background and colours. You need photos for the presentation so it can be like an eye catcher. You use the internet so you can get information for it and research on it. You can get videos from the internet and upload it onto the presentation that you are doing, so the people have something to look at when they are onto the presentation.

5 1.4What factors might have affected how well you completed the presentation? (e.g. time / attendance / knowledge of software) I did not know what to do because I was not listening to what miss said I fell behind because I was not listening during the lessons, and I have had a few days off when there is an IT lesson. And I know how to use the software but is just the fact that I have been off for them days but I do understand how to use PowerPoint. My presentation has been more effective because I have been at catch up sessions and that has helped me with my work because it is a quiet room and it is much more helpful because it is a quiet room because there are not many people in there.

6 1.6Why did you use PowerPoint to make your presentation? What other software was available? Why did you choose not to use them? I could have made a poster on word. It could have been very eye catching and I could have sent it to peoples homes and it could be displayed it shop windows for people to see it. If I had made a poster then it would have got send home, and it could have been lost or thrown away. It would have also cost a lot of money for the printing and posting. Because with PowerPoint you can choose if you want a attractive background or not. And it has a variety of different ways you can have your fonts. I used power point so I could do things that I can’t do with any other program like add a video. A powerpoint is also cheaper because I could email it and it will not cost anything because it is free to email.

7 2.2Which tools within PowerPoint made it appropriate for your presentation? The tools I use for power point are very helpful, I also put the text/size of the writing in a size 18. sometimes I put it in bold so it can stand out better. Being able to add transitions, shapes are good tools. The videos are good to insert onto power point instead of just inserting a lot of pictures to display and see the school, you can just put a video onto it and its much quicker and will look better with a video not about 5 or 6 pictures. Shapes are good for things like hyperlink because you can turn them into buttons, You can use hyperlinks to go to websites quicker and can have or store your information onto that website.

8 2.4What improvements do you think you could do to your presentation? Decrease the word amount so it is appropriate for people in the year 6 group. Because they don’t have to read lots because if that see lots of writing then they will think its boring and place more pictures into the presentation. If you place more pictures they will want to see the rest of the presentation. You need pictures because if you write about the school the do not know what it will look like that’s why you should put pictures into it so they get a full view of the school, or they should insert a video and go around the whole school. The colour scheme is going to be a few colours for the presentation and will be suitable for the certain topics of the presentation I am going to show to the year 6’s. I'm going to use colours that stand out because they will want to read it if it has more colour and less writing, but if it is just black and white with no colours then it will not be as attractive and they will not want to read the presentation due to the fact it will look boring and have too much writing. I will also reduce the size of the writing because it will look like there is less writing and if it doesn’t look like much writing then they might read all of it.

9 1.7Were there any legal constraints or local constraints that changed the way you created your presentation? (e.g. copyright, file sizes, AUP) Copyright you need permission for copying videos and images but on RMShared we have permission to copy videos and images. If something has copyright and that person gives you permission you might need to put their name on it and you will earn a profit and share their name to make a successful business. People want to use their own images and have credit, but if you use their images without permission then it is illegal and you are be breaking the law. This meant that my videos were not the best because I had to use something of RMshared. I used a short videos because if I used a video with better quality and was longer then it will take longer to download and if you have bad internet then it would take even longer. Also it was bad quality because it was off Rmshared and ingots will not allow a bigger sized file for you to put onto the website.

10 3.2What improvements do you think you could have done to improve your work rate? (keyboard shortcuts, file names & locations, backups, work after school, templates, planning) I could have saved it in one place, not in all different areas. This would have made me work much quicker and at a faster pace because I know where all of my work is. I never worked in class I just sat their and talked all the time. If I had of worked in class then it would have been complete in time, and I would have not had to attend catch-up lessons and I would not have fell behind on my work. I could have easily finished before the timeline that I had to complete my work that was set. But now I have started to attend catch up session because I can get more help and there is just a few people in the catch up session so I don’t need to wait a long time for the teacher or the teacher assistant to come over to me and help me with the work that I am stuck on.
