Classroom Rules 2. Raise your hand before speaking or

Entering the Class Line up outside the door.
Say good morning or good afternoon to Ms. Pang. Walk quietly to your assigned seat. Begin your warm up assignment immediately.

Warm-Up Activity Silently read the writing prompt on the board.
Write the date in your journal. Think quietly and write for the full 10 minutes.

Lining Up – Outside of the Classroom
Line up in two lines directly behind another student. Do not talk and pay attention to the teacher.

Getting Journals and Folders
Resource managers enter the class and get journals & folders from the boxes. They take them to the tables and put them on students’ desks.

When I Need to Sharpen a Pencil
Plan to sharpen pencils at your desk using your own sharpener. If you must sharpen your pencil, raise your hand and when called on say, “I need to sharpen my pencil”.

When we use Art Supplies
Each table’s resource manager will get the boxes for their table when they need to be used. Boxes will have crayons, colored pencils, and glue.

When I Need to take an A.R. Quiz
The only time you are allowed to take an A.R. quiz is during silent reading time, nutrition, lunch, or afterschool. Raise your hand to ask for permission to go to the computer. Quietly sign in and take your A.R. quiz. Ask Ms. Pang for A.R. passwords if you forgot it.

When Teacher is Talking
Sit up straight. Lean forward. Actively listen. Nod yes or no. Track the teacher. You may not talk with your partner unless instructed to do so.

Lesson Actively listen to the teacher and follow her instructions.
You should SLANT towards the teacher. You will be taking notes, following directions for how to work with your partner or with your group.

Novel Study We will read novels as a class throughout the year.
Take notes as you read. After reading, complete assignments independently and/or with your partner or group.

Writing Time When assigned writing assignments, you will write quietly unless instructed by the teacher to brainstorm, edit, or revise your writing with your partner.

Silent Reading Time Bring your independent reading book to school everyday. You will have minutes to read. Write notes or thoughts on post it notes while you read.

Restroom You may not use the restroom during the first or last 10 minutes of class. Use the restroom before school, during nutrition, during lunch, or afterschool. In an emergency, raise your hand quietly. When called on say, “May I use the restroom.” Complete all information on the blue clipboard and carry with you to the restroom.

Putting Journals and Folders Away
The teacher will say, “Resource managers, please collect and return journals and folders.” Resource managers will collect and return journals/folders to the boxes.

Exit Slip/ Assignment Check to see that you’ve completed the exit slip or assignment for the day. Make sure your full name is written on your exit slip or assignment.

Dismissal of Class You may leave the class when dismissed by the teacher. The teacher will say, “Table __ you are dismissed.” Stand up, push in your chair, and walk out the door quietly.
