4 Start Spreading the News  The Dutch Settle New Netherland and use the Patroon System to increase the populations by offering land grants and Special rights  Under Peter Stuyvesant New Netherland grew by attacking and taking over New Sweden  England, Under the Duke of York, looked to kick the Dutch out of the New Netherlands to Expand Territory  With No help from the Netherlands, the Dutch give up their settlement and New York becomes a Proprietary Colony

8 Sweet Carolina  The Carolinas are created and become a place of religious freedom  The use of slaves, including Native Americans, to farm land leads to wars against the Native Americans  When the owners of Carolina would not send help to fight the Spanish, Carolina would become a Royal Colony  The colony would be divided into North and South Carolina and would be ruled by governors

9 Georgia on my Mind**  Georgia is formed by James Oglethorpe and becomes a refuge for debtors and a military outpost against Florida  After an Unsuccessful takeover attempt by Spain Georgia English, Swiss, German and Scottish settlers came to the colony  After James Oglethorpe set strict rules for the colony, the king of England made it a Royal Colony
