6 Grading There are four grading periods, each is nine weeks long. Fifth graders receive letter grades (A – F) on their report cards. Any papers with a number (1-4) and/or letter grade will count towards your child’s grade in that subject. (Summative grades) Any papers marked with a check mark (check plus, check minus, etc.) are averaged together and count as one grade for that subject. (Formative grades) All work is important and needs to be completed correctly and on time !

7 Helping your child at home Have your child read EVERYDAY and model good reading in your home by reading with him/her and discussing good books. Remember: “All reading is good reading!” Practice multiplication and division facts through “12.” Have your child practice writing by keeping a daily journal of the day’s events.

8 Volunteer If there is a special activity or service you would like to be involved with (mystery reader, field trips, etc.) please let us know. We welcome your willingness to assist. Give us a call or drop the class “Room Parent” a note. Also, thanks for getting involved!

9 Class Celebrations/Birthdays We will have three class celebrations this year (Fall/Harvest Festival, Winter Wonderland, and Valentine’s Day). Stay tuned for more information. It is LCPS policy not to have parents send in food treats for your child’s birthday. However, parents may bring in non-food items to commemorate their child’s birthday. ◦ Drop items off at the office and we will distribute them at the end of the school day. ◦ Please make sure you send the correct quantity - how sad for someone if there isn’t enough!
