2 What is the subjunctive? It is a mood. A mood tells us how an action or condition is conceived by the speaker or writer A mood is not a tense. A tense references when an action or condition takes place. The subjunctive represents an action or condition that is not a fact but is contingent or possible

4 First let’s learn how to form the subjunctive?

6 An easy way to remember how to conjugate is to remember: Go “yo” Drop the “o” Add the “oppo” (e,a) ar verb endings er/ir verb endings -e -emos -a -amos -es -éis -as -áis -e -en -a -an Don’t forget about the stem changing and “go” verbs.

7 Of Course…. There are six super irregular subjunctive verbs. They are the only verbs that do not end in “o” when conjugated in the “yo” form of the present tense.

8 They are easy to remember them because they spell… Dar doy dé I r voy vaya Ser soy sea Haber he haya Estar estoy esté Saber sé sepa Infinitive Present “yo” Subjunctive “yo”

9 And now let’s explore when and how to use the subjunctive.

10 Another way to remember what the verbs will likely call for the use of the subjunctive is to remember the word… W – wishes, desires, imperatives (querer, desear, mandar) E - emotions (alegrarse de, entristeserse de) I – impersonal observations (es importante, es posible) R – recommendations ( recomendar, aconsejar) D – doubt, denial, disbelief (dudar, negar, no creer) O – ojalá – God willing, let’s hope that God…
