Origins & History of Magazine In 1997, XXL was founded & developed by the founders of The Source who wanted to create their own magazine based on the hip-hop music and culture genre. The publisher is Dennis S. Page In 2006, XXL took over the hip hop producer & DJ magazine scratch naming it “XXL presents scratch magazine” XXL focuses on music, style, sports & most of all respect It is an urban lifestyle magazine that covers all aspects of hip-hop culture XXL keeps readers updated with the latest music

Editorial Style of Magazine Language includes : formal when addressing the readers with important information e.g. competitions that will be approaching Some informal words/ slang e.g. swear words appealing to the young audience from a response from the artists when interviewed. Photography: double page spread- includes one main photo on the of the artists that is being interviewed with a white box of the interview upon their picture Front cover- main image centre (mid shot), magazine title above on left & sub genres at the side etc.

Target Audience Mainly around 16 & over because of the context in the lyrics & words in the sentences Also people that are into rnb because they understand some of the slang words involved. The magazine seems to be targeting the males as there are a lot of “manly” images & interviews from the men in the rnb category
