2nd Grade Mrs. Stephens’ Wise Guys Week of August 27, 2018 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Ask and Answer Questions We will learn how to ask and answer questions such as who, what, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the August writing calendar Write 2 things you like about our region, the Piedmont. Math: Problem Solving We will learn how to use addition and subtraction to solve one-step word problems within 20. Writing: Personal Narratives We will learn how to write a narrative that recounts a well elaborated short sequence of events, includes details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, uses transition words, and provides a sense of closure. Math Practice Addition and Subtraction Math Facts to 10 Go to Greg Tang Math on our class links page and then click on resources – word problems to generate and practice word problems. Spelling Complete S.O.S. for the weekly words – where, why, how Choose a spelling activity from the August Speller’s Choice Science: Matter We will describe different objects according to their physical properties. Social Studies: Georgia Regions We will continue to collaborate and present with groups on our Georgia Regions while also labeling 3 of Georgia’s rivers on a map. Reading Read for 20 minutes Practice asking and answering questions before, during, and after reading S.S./ Science Go to our class webpage, click on links, click on states of matter, watch the short video and sort the objects (solids, liquids, gas) Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling/ Reading Rule Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Floss Rule When /f/, /l/, /s/ (or /z/) is heard after a short vowel at the end of a one-syllable word, it is spelled with a double ff, ll, ss, or zz. Ex: puff, hill, less, jazz Irregular Plural Nouns We will learn how to form and use frequently occurring irregular plural nouns when speaking or writing.
