2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of December 4, 2017 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Poetry We will learn how words and phrases (regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the December writing calendar Spend time editing/ revising once you have finished your piece Math: Problem Solving We will learn how to use addition and subtraction strategies to solve one and two step word problems within 20. Math IXL Word problem practice – class blog/ links page ( Writing: Informational Writing In our informational unit, we will learn how to edit and revise our informational writing pieces. Then we will color our pictures, add a cover page, publish, and bind the books. Spelling Choose an activity from the December Speller’s Choice activity sheet Choose an activity off of the Challenge Calendar Reading Read a nonfiction book for 20 minutes Raz Kids Science: Force and Motion We will learn about how forces are pushes or pulls on an object and how they can make an object move, slow down, or stop. S.S./ Science Use the Force and Motion Flip Book to review for the test and answer the review questions on the back of the book. Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling/ Reading Rule Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Rabbit Words (Syllable Division) Root Words We will learn how to use a known root word as a clue to find the meaning of an unknown word with the same root. Ex: addition – additional December 6 – Grade Level STEM Day December 7 – Adventures in Art December 14 – High Touch High Tech – In House Field Trip (wear class t-shirts) December 19 – Wear your warmest pajamas!
