2nd Grade Ms. Alderson’s Superheroes Week of September 4, 2017 WEEKLY HOMEWORK A Peek at Our Week Reading: Characters We will continue to study characters in our books and notice how they respond to problems or challenges they face. We will also learn about the story structure (Beginning, Middle, End) Writing Choose a writing prompt from the September calendar Math Go to Greg Tang Math on our class links page and then click on resources – word problems to generate and practice word problems. IXL Math: Problem Solving We will continue to use addition and subtraction strategies to solve one step word problems within 20. Spelling Watch the S.O.S video on the class blog under the “homework resources” tab and practice with your weekly spelling words-does, then, would, could, should Choose an activity from the September Speller’s Choice Sheet (homework binder) Writing: Personal Narratives As we continue to work on our small moments, we will use a narrative checklist to make sure we are including all of the elements of a personal narrative. Reading Read 20 minutes every day Raz-kids Go to States of Matter on our class webpage to review and play a game Review States of Matter Study Guide for test Science/SS/Health: States of Matter We will compare and contrasts states of matter (solid, liquid, gas), properties of matter (color, mass, length, texture, hardness, strength, absorbency, flexibility) and explain how some changes in matter caused by heating and cooling can be reversed while others are irreversible. Science/Social Studies Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling Pattern Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Collective Nouns We will learn how to identify and use collective nouns when speaking or writing. Ex: school of fish Glued Sounds It is easier to read and spell words with some combinations if we GLUE them together.
