Ms. Taylor 2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of October 1, 2018 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Beginning, Middle, End We will describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the characters and setting, the middle provides major events and challenges, and ending concludes the action or solution. We will also use information gained from the illustrations and words in print or digital text to understand its characters, setting, or plot. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the October writing calendar Math: Money Word Problems We will learn how to solve word problems using dimes, nickels, and pennies using the cent symbol within 20. Math IXL Practice – money or math facts Writing: Personal Narratives We will learn how to write a narrative that recounts a well elaborated short sequence of events, includes details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, uses transition words, and provides a sense of closure. Spelling Complete S.O.S. for the weekly words – even, know, more Choose a spelling activity from the October Speller’s Choice Social Studies: Civic and Government Understandings We will define the concept of government and the need for rules and laws. We will also identify elected officials of the executive branch (President, Governor, Mayor, and where they work (White House, State Capitol, City Hall).
