2nd Grade Ms. Alderson’s Superheroes Week of September 18, 2017 WEEKLY HOMEWORK A Peek at Our Week Reading: Characters We will continue to describe the overall structure of the story. We will also use illustrations as well as words to understand the characters, setting, and plot of the story. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the September calendar Math Play “Learning Coins” and “Counting Coins”-links are found on our class webpage under Fun Links IXL Math: Money We will learn the value of a quarter, dime, nickel, and penny. We will also count sets of coins. Spelling Choose an activity from the September Speller’s Choice Sheet (homework binder) Writing: Personal Narratives We will continue working on our personal narratives. Great writers revise and edit their small moments before publishing a final piece. Reading Read 20 minutes every day Picture walk a story and tell what is happening in the story before reading the story Raz-kids Make a list of rules that you have at home and discuss them with your family Science/SS/Health: Government We will define the concept of government and the need for rules and laws. We will also identify elected officials of the executive branch and where they work. (President/White House-D.C., Governor/State Capitol Building-Atlanta, Mayor-city hall) Science/Social Studies Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling Pattern Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Vowel Teams ee/ea, ai/ay When two vowels together make one sound in a word, it is called a vowel team. The sound of these two letters is generally the sound of the first vowel in the team. Ex: teeth, reach, bait, May Irregular Plural Nouns A noun becomes plural by changing its spelling in ways other than adding an “s” or “es” to the end of the word. We will learn how to form frequently occurring irregular plural nouns and use them in our writing. Ex: feet, teeth, mice September 19- Chick-fil-a Spirit Night September 22- STEM Day September 25 – Fall Break Begins Weekly Words We will not have any new weekly words this week.
