2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of August 14, 2017 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Reading Workshop Launch We will learn how to think about our reading by reading important events in a story. Writing Read for 20 minutes (every day) Choose a writing prompt from the August calendar Math: Place Value We will continue to work 3 digit place value by writing numbers in standard form, base ten form, word form, and expanded form. Math Read for 20 minutes (every day) Play Shark Place Value on the class blog/ links page Writing: Personal Narratives We are working on writing personal narratives and focusing on small moments when we write. Great writers magnify small moments by adding details. Spelling Read for 20 minutes (every day) Watch the S.O.S video on the class blog and practice with the weekly words – after, again, any, from, and of Social Studies: Georgia Regions We will locate and describe the five regions of Georgia (Piedmont, Valley and Ridge, Appalachian Plateau, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Costal Plain). Reading Read for 20 minutes (every day) Pick a game from the class blog – links page S.S./ Science Review the Georgia Regions study guide and label and color the regions on the map on the back Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Language Skill Spelling Pattern Mark Your Calendar Rules of /k/ -ck is used after a short vowel after the first syllable of a word. -k is used before e, I , or y and at the end of a word. – c is used before a, o, or u. Ex: sock, kid, cup Capitalization We will focus on capitalizing proper nouns in our writing.
