Relative Location: location of other places. Location

3 Place: Where something is located on earth.

4 Movement: How people go from one place to another.

5 Region: A specific area located on a map.
Formal- A region that has common characteristics. Functional- A central place and area linked to it. Perceptual- A region defined by popular feelings and images. Region

6 Human-Environment Interaction
Human-Environment Interaction: How people change or adapt to the environment around them. Human-Environment Interaction

7 Reference Map: shows specific features of the earth.
Physical- Shows natural features of the earth. Political- Shows man made features of the earth Physical Map- natural Political Map- man made

8 Thematic Map: A map that tells about a single idea or specific
kind of information about an area. Thematic Map

9 Map Projection: A flat representation of all or part of the 3-D
Earth. Planar Projection: A map of Earth on a geometric plane. Cylindrical Projection: A map of Earth on a cylinder. Conic Projection: A map of Earth on a cone placed over part of an Earth model. Conic Projection Map Projection- flat Planar Projection- geometric Cylindrical Projection- cylinder

10 Mercator Map: cylindrical projection- true direction in it.
Robinson Map: common type of conic map. Robinson Map Mercator Map

11 Globe: A model of the Earth that represents accurate area, distance, and direction.

12 Geographic Information System (GIS): computer programs that process and organize details about places on Earth and integrate those details with satellite images. Global Positioning System (GPS): a navigational system that can tell you the absolute location by using satellites and receivers on Earth. Global Positioning System- GPS Geographic Information System- GIS

13 Geographic Grid: formed by the crossing of latitude and longitude lines.
Latitude- lines that circle the earth parallel to the Equator. (North / South) Longitude- lines that measure distance (West and East) of the Prime Meridian.
