2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of September 4, 2017 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Characters Go on Journeys We will study characters in our books and notice how they respond to problems or challenges they face. We will also learn about the story structure (beginning, middle, and end). Writing Choose a writing prompt from the September calendar Math: Problem Solving We will use addition and subtraction strategies to solve one step word problems within 20. Math IXL Go to Greg Tang Math on our class links page and then click on resources – word problems to generate and practice word problems. Writing: Personal Narratives As we continue to work on our small moments, we will use a narrative checklist to make sure we are including all of the elements of a personal narrative. Spelling Read for 20 minutes (every day) Watch the S.O.S video on the class blog and practice with the weekly words – does, then, would, could, should Science: States of Matter We will compare and contrasts states of matter (solid, liquid, gas), properties of matter (color, mass, length, texture, hardness, strength, absorbency, flexibility) and explain how some changes in matter caused by heating and cooling can be reversed while others are irreversible. Reading Read for 20 minutes (every day) Raz Kids S.S./ Science Review for the States of Matter Test Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Language Skill Spelling Pattern Mark Your Calendar Glued Sounds It is easier to read and spell words with some combinations if we GLUE them together. (ang, ong, ing, ung, ank, onk, ink, unk) Collective Nouns We will learn how to identify and use collective nouns when speaking or writing. Ex: school of fish September 8 – Family Fun Night 6 PM September 11 – Foundation Capital Campaign September 16 – East Cobb Parade 10 AM September 22 – STEM Day – Caine’s Arcade September 25 – Fall Break Begins Weekly Words does, then, would, could, should
