To understand how we can get the most out of our Facebook page, we’ll be asking 6 key 5.1 Key questions to unlock Facebook Pages 11 22 33 44 55 66 Where on Facebook are we communicating? As you discuss possible answers, keep in mind what you have already learned. If you have more than 2 answers, write these down for future brainstorming sessions about your Facebook strategy. After your team discussion on the possible answers to the six questions, every team should share their 2 answers with the rest of the class. Friends and family Acquaintances People interested in our business People from the UK People from other parts of the world Primarily people aged 15 – 35 Children and teens, aged 9-19 The largest growing demographic is people age 55+ so be aware of their presence People of different cultural and religious backgrounds People interested in films and filmmaking Other local businesses similar to your business, including your ‘competition According to Facebook, around 24million Britons log onto Facebook everyday, so our audience has the potential to be wide Facebook reports that the most popular Facebook page in the UK is Family Guy with around 4.5million likes, so we it’s likely that many UK users enjoy satirical, though-provoking humour Looking at possible answers 11

7 When should we communicate on Facebook? When UK users are awake and online – busy times are 9am – 8pm When our page analytical tools tell us our page fans are online When our fans or friends contact us, we should respond as soon as possible On other pages On walls of friends (by sharing links to our page or links to Facebook events On UK pages and groups On pages and groups run by people in other countries On industry-related groups In messages to our fans, in response to messages sent to us In messages between page admins In comment sections of group posts, page posts Through notes Through events and on event walls In messages to our friends, possibly inviting them to Like our page According to Facebook, “People are online numerous times in a single day and are constantly connected; creating, sharing and engaging with the content that matters to them.” Looking at possible answers 44

8 How do we get people to like us and engage with us on Facebook? By giving them content that adds value to their experience on Facebook Say thank you – gratitude goes a long way By being likable as a brand and as an individual Be funny, entertaining, relevant and genuine Like what others are doing and saying and comment on other people’s posts Be responsive – respond quickly to comments and messages Be sincere and supportive in your engagement with others Display qualities that are considered admirable – friendliness, sense of humour, insight, inquisitive nature, high level of motivation to succeed, self-awareness Be global-minded and ready to engage with others on a world-stage Be forward-thinking Be professional, respectful and clear in your communication Keep asking questions and exploring possible answers in relation to everything you do Looking at possible answers 55

9 Why is Facebook a good platform for our businesses? Has millions of active users Easy to use platform Gives your brand visibility and a credible online presence Allows you to connect and interact with people and businesses Has a high level of activity amongst people in the fields of film and video production Allows you to create an interactive record of the progress of your production and it’s release Is a visually stimulating platform where creativity is appreciated According to Facebook, “When people like or comment on your posts, their friends can see them connecting with your Page. This kind of word-of-mouth marketing is a great way to expand your audience.” Facebook reported that in 2013, there were more than 645million views on local business pages Looking at possible answers 66

10 In your teams, plan a shoot for your cover and profile photograph for your page. These photographs can be changed later but you will need to take some photographs to use when you create your page. Remember that images should be easy to see on mobile phones as well as on computers. In the image below, you can see the dimensions, in pixels, for you cover and profile photograph. 5.2 ACTIVITY: Prepare your page’s profile and cover photo

11 You can use any type of picture editing software. Picasa from google is great as it allows you to resize photograph, add text and other effects. Google “download Picasa” if you are interested in trying it out. The Modern Family page below have good examples of pictures with text on them. 5.2 ACTIVITY: Edit your cover and profile photograph

20 Acting as your page, each team must find pages that have something in common with your Facebook page. Like these pages and like some posts on these pages. Write some comments on the posts. Limit yourself by only interacting with 5 different pages and only liking or commenting 1-3 times on each of these pages.
