The Teachings of Confucius Ancient China

Standard HSS Know about the life of Confucius and the fundamental teachings of Confucianism and Daoism.

Lesson Objectives: Content: We will describe the traditional values of Confucius and other governments. Language: 1. We will write questions that facilitate a discussion using suggested question stems. 2. We will compare and contrast the values and rules of ancient times to that of today by using comparison words such as : like, also, similarly, unlike, in contrast.

Class Discussion Do we have rules in our society that tell us how we should treat one another? If so, what are they?

Focus Question: What traditional values did Confucius encourage?

 Read p “Law and Order”.  As you read make annotations of phrases that are interesting, surprising, important, or confusing?  Write one question that starts with one of these FAT frames: How could that … How do you feel about… How does ________________ relate to our own society? Why do you think… How did you react when… Why is this… Discuss your questions with your group. Make sure to read the passage in which the question came from.
