Health Related Fitness Components What are they and why are they important?

Cardiovascular Endurance Cardiovascular endurance is the ability of the circulatory and respiratory systems to supply oxygen during sustained physical activity. To improve your cardiovascular endurance you should engage in cardiovascular activities for at least 20 minutes in your target heart rate zone.

Muscular Strength Muscular strength is the ability of the muscle to exert force during an activity. The key to making your muscles stronger is working them against resistant, whether it be gravity or weights.

Muscular Endurance Muscular Endurance is the ability of the muscle to continue to perform without getting tired. To improve muscle endurance, try cardiovascular activities such as walking, jogging, dancing and bicycling.

Body Composition Body composition refers to the relative amount of muscle, fat, bone and other vital parts of the body. A person’s body weight(what you see on the bathroom scale) does not access how much of the body weight is fat and lean mass. Body composition is important to consider for health and managing weight.

Flexibility Flexibility is the ability of a joint to move through its full range of motion. Good flexibility in the joints can help prevent injuries through all stages of life. If you want to improve flexibility, try stretching all major muscle groups for at least 15 seconds every day.
