2 Today we will…  Define the 5 main fitness components  Describe how the 5 main fitness components relate to our lives  Give examples of when and why we use the 5 main fitness components  Gain an understanding of the importance of physical activity and how the 5 main fitness components relate to everything that we do  Take a quiz on the skill related fitness activities from last class

3 Warm Up  Think of someone you know who is fit.  List reasons why you feel this person is fit.

5 Cardiovascular fitness  Fitness of your heart

6 Aerobic Activity  Vigorous activity in which oxygen is taken in for a recommended period of at least 20 minutes.  Continuous movement and activity  Jogging  Biking  Swimming  Aerobics  Eliptical

7 Anaerobic Activity  An exercise where the bodies demand for oxygen is greater than the supply  Exercise in short bursts or spurts  Basketball  Football  Exercise stations  Weight lifting  Tennis

8 flexibility  Being able to move your joints through a full range of motion  Stretching  Reaching  Movement  Gymnastics  Yoga  All sports  Activities around your house

9 Muscle strength  The work your muscles can do at any given time  Lifting  Pushing  Carrying

10 Muscle endurance  Muscles performing over and over without becoming tired.  Lifting weights  Splitting wood  Stacking bricks  Walking  Any exercise or activity where you are moving for an extended period of time

11 Body composition  Having a high ratio of lean body tissue and mass in comparison to fat body tissue and mass  What your body is comprised or made up of.  Exercise and Eat properly

12 Closing Activity  Can you think of your own original activities that make use of the 5 main fitness components?
