Presentation transcript:

n Water in a high reservoir has potential energy n The water is allowed to fall under gravity n The water gains kinetic energy n The kinetic energy drives the turbines n The turbines drives the generators n The kinetic energy of the shafts of the generators is converted into electrical energy

n There is no air pollution n It is very reliable n Minimal running cost n No fuel needed. n There is a immediate response

n You have to flood a valley to build a big dam n there is a big impact on the environment n possible loss of habitat for some species n initial costs are high n an eyesore.

n Completed in 1911 n Recent renovations completed in 1996 n 36 MW of power n Reservoir covers acres n Located 76 miles north east of Phoenix, Arizona

n Located 30 miles south east of Las Vegas, on the Colorado River. n Took five years to build and it was completed in 1936 n Upgraded Power Capacity of 2000 MW n Electrical energy is supplied to Arizona, Nevada, and California

n Hope you don’t feel like this after our presentation!!! n By Hayley & Jenny!
