3 What is Hydroelectric power?
Water is needed to run a hydroelectric generating unit. It’s held in a lake behind the dam, and the force of the water being released from the lake through the dam spins the blades of a turbine. The turbine is connected to the generator that produces electricity. After passing through the turbine, the water reenters the river on the downstream side of the dam.

5 The Advantages and Disadvantages of Hydroelectric Power.
Once a dam is constructed, electricity can be produced at a constant rate. Hydropower is a fueled by water, so it's a clean fuel source. Hydroelectric power is not that expensive. Disadvantages: Dams are extremely expensive to build and must be built to a very high standard. People living in villages and towns that are in the valley to be flooded, must move out. Fish populations can be impacted if fish live in the dam.

6 How do Dams make Hydroelectric Power?
Hydroelectric power is made as water passes through a dam, and into a river below. The more water that passes through a dam, the more energy is produced. Electricity is produced by a device called a turbine. Turbines are located inside dams. The falling water spins the magnets.

7 How is Hydroelectric Power Generated?
Hydroelectric power is generated by using electricity generators to extract energy from moving water .

8 How is Hydroelectric Power very convenient?
Hydropower is very convenient because it can respond quickly to fluctuations in demand. A dam's gates can be opened or closed on command.
