 Men - The father bought the land and cleared the trees. He built a cabin for his family and small barn for the animals. He built a fence around the pasture. The men also planted, harvested, and hunted.  Women - The women cooked meals, sewed and cleaned the clothes. She took care of the children and older relatives. She taught her children to read and write.  Children - They helped their fathers in the fields and with building. They helped their mothers in the kitchen and with cleaning.
