The Careers Centre

Among other things we offer: Career guidance Assistance with internship, student jobs and project cooperation The Careers Fair in Gigantium (3 rd of March, 2015) Workshops and events

Skills: 3 categories: -professional skills (from your study programme) marketing, language, finances, technical skills etc -general academic skills (from studying at AAU) Team work, PBL, scientific method etc. -personal skills (because of who you are AND all of your extra curricular activities) Flexibility, social skills, networking skills, Initiative etc. Skills from all categories play an important role when competing in the job market.

You acquire skills from all kind of different activities (not just from your studies) Valuable personal skills could f.x. be developed through a stay abroad….. Let’s see what the employers have to say about that:

A stay abroad provides students with relevant skills and qualifications which make them very attractive to companies recruiting newly graduated university graduates. An international perspective and intercultural understanding are extremely important skills in today’s labour market AND they are becoming increasingly important for private businesses in the future.

Given a situation where companies have to choose between to equally qualified candidates, 55% would at the end of the day choose the one who has international experience. Only 1% of employers say that they would choose the candidate without the international experience

What skills are the employers looking for: Responsibility Problem solving skills Flexibility Good communication skills Initiative Social skills International experience Language skills Intercultural skills Networking skills Ambition

How do I ensure that I get the most of my stay abroad? Be open minded and observe/absorb the “new culture” as much as you can Speak the language as much as you can Embrace every challenge and task you are offered Get a recommendation from your internship Keep track of the skills and qualifications you developed, so you remember them all for your CV when you get back
